Race Information
The race takes you to the smaller airports we do not normally visit in our Hub flights. Pilots fly as many legs as possible during the day, stay overnight to enjoy banquets and activities, and fly more legs the next day. The goal is to complete all legs and land at KBKL Burke-Lakefront, Cleveland, OH in three days. Most of us WWA pilots do hot have time for a three-day straight stint. Have fun and fly any or all of this at your discretion.
Charter Background: Your good friend is no longer able to fly his Beech Baron 58 or other small propeller aircraft due to terminal illness. He flew the race for years. He wants you to fly his Baron for him. He will accompany you in the cockpit. He is unable to handle the controls and no longer has his FAA license. Race officials have given their stamp of approval and welcome you to be the pilot on your friend’s behalf. All of his friends will appreciate seeing your friend in the race. This race consists of flying seven legs approximately 1.5 hours each. The Air Race departs F70 French Valley, Temeculah, CA. The race awards points for best leg times and best use of fuel. Fly:
1) F70 to KIGM French Valley to Kingman, AZ.
The objective is to come in under your friend’s best flight times. His best times for the legs are: Leg 1) 1.2 hrs., Leg 2) 2.1 hrs., Leg 3) 1.9 hrs., Leg 4) 1.7 hrs., Leg 5) 1.7 hrs., Leg 6) 1.6 hrs., and Leg 7) 1.4 hrs. His Baron’s average airspeed was 170-180 kts and average fuel for each leg was about 40-50 gallons.
The event rules require participants to fly specific flight plans. DOWNLOAD THE FLIGHT PLANS from http://flywestwind.com/Charters/special.zip A finale Banquet is planned. A day or so afterward, when your friend is ready, depart KBKL in his Baron and fly to our WWA Cincinnati Hub, KCVG. Your friend arranged the sale of his Baron and he will meet with the purchaser at KCVG. After the sale and a few days of relaxation in Cincinnati, fly your friend home to KLAX.
