Regional Cargo Charter Details
AKC004: Island Cargo Run |
---|
Westwind Alaska has been contracted for weekly cargo flights from Anchorage to
two western islands in the Bering Sea; St. Lawrence Island and Nunivak
Island. St. Lawrence Island is located 590 nm from Anchorage. Savoonga Airport (PASA) has a 4400’ gravel runway. Nunivak Island is located 480 nm from Anchorage. Mekoryuk Airport (PAMY) has a 3700’ gravel runway. We have two options for cargo flights. A Cat II plane will fly to one of the locations and return to Anchorage, then reload and fly to the other location. A Cat III or higher category aircraft will first fly to Savoonga, unload and then fly to Mekoryuk. Return to Anchorage after Mekoryuk. Pilots are authorized to fly cargo back to Anchorage from either location without prior approval as long as the cargo meets safety requirements. Pilots must use any propellor driven aircraft capable of operating out of gravel runways. Both gravel strips are short, so that must also be taken into consideration. Aircraft:
