AKP005: Kahiltna International Airport Adventure |
---|
During the summer months, Kahiltna Glacier becomes known to the McKinley faithful as Kahiltna International Airport. Kahiltna glacier is southwest of Mt. McKinley’s peak. During the summer months the weather is clear enough to fly ski planes into the base camp located there. The base camp/airport is due west of Mt. Hunter at 62*57.29N, 151*14.05W at an elevation of approx. 7000ft. Kahiltna Airport is approx. 113 nm from Anchorage on a heading of 343*. Meet your passengers at the Anchorage executive ramp and fly them to Kahiltna. They may just want an aerial tour with a glacier landing, or they might be planning to camp out on the glacier for a day or two or hike up Mt. McKinley. Either way, we are here to provide quality air service for them. If you're leaving your passengers on the glacier you will need to arrange a pick up time to bring them back to Anchorage. Also, you are authorized to pick up personnel from the glacier and bring them back to Anchorage. Flying with passengers makes the airline and you, more money. Be resourceful. As always, safety is the priority. Do not fly into a situation you cannot get out of. Check the weather before departure and during the flight. Any snow ski equipped plane will work for this charter. Use the an appropriately sized plane to accommodate the planned load of passengers and luggage.
